On Wednesday 12th of November 2025 at Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia, performing the iconic AC/DC It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll), 374 pipers smashed the largest bagpipe ensemble playing together at the same time and location world record.
The new world record came nearly 50 years after the filming of AC/DC's iconic music video for It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll), which took place nearby. The music video, filmed along Swanston Street in Melbourne's CBD featured lead singer Bon Scott playing alongside bagpipers from the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band.
98 year old Bruce Hocking (pictured with Helen Taylor TABOR official) set another record by becoming the oldest piper to participate in the largest bagpipe ensemble. Born in 1927 Bruce started playing the bagpipes aged 14 and has been playing for 84 years, another record for bagpipe playing duration.
Congratulations to every piper for providing the thousands of attending public with one of the greatest sights and sounds record breaking has produced in Australia, it was truly spectacular.
