Australia’s first astronaut
On October 5, 1984, Dr Paul Scully-Power AM, became Australia’s first astronaut.

 

He flew on Space Shuttle Challenger’s sixth flight (and the 13th flight of NASA’s Space Shuttle program).

 

He was also the first man with a beard in space and the first oceanographer in space.
