One of Australia’s rarest plants is the Waddi Tree (Acacia puece). The extreme hardness of Waddi wood was known to break axes and was impossible to burn. The local Aboriginals and European settlers found their own uses for the wood. Now a protected species, these trees can only be found on the fringe of the Simpson Desert in Queensland and the Northern Territory. |
