Four oldest grandfathers at wedding totaling 390 years
The wedding of Yianni Arapakis and Kristina Tsourdalakis took place at St Paraskevi, St Barbara and St John Greek Orthodox Church at St Albans, Melbourne on Saturday 25th May 2024 followed by a reception at Vogue Ballroom. The newlyweds were honored their grandfathers could attend; the four men pictured share 390 years of life and experience. Mr Charalambos Tanos, aged 103, travelled from Brisbane to attend his grandson’s wedding. The bride’s grandfather, Mr Kosta Tsourdalakis is aged 97, Mr Yianni Arapakis Snr aged 90 and Mr Elias Lambropoulos is 100. Pappou (grandfather) Kosta wrote a moving poem which he read to the guests at the reception and presented to the children. There was no chance Pappou Harry would miss out on his grandson’s wedding, and when people questioned if he could travel to Melbourne, his response was “why not”? He even had a dance at the reception with the groom, his children, grand children and nieces and nephews. What an amazing weekend, with 75 people travelling from Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Athens to join in the celebrations.
